Rainmen down Kebs, 109-86

04/07/2010 10:00 PM

The Halifax Rainmen secured their hold, at least temporarily, on third place in the PBL as they wrapped up their regular season with a 109-86 win over the Quebec Kebs Wednesday night at the Metro Centre.

The game amounted to a playoff tune-up for the Rainmen, who finish their regular season with a 13-7 record. They were 8-2 at home, during their 20-game schedule.
Gary Ervin paced the Rainmen attack Wednesday night with another triple-double, scoring 22 points, 12 boards, and 15 assists. Larry Turner added 18 points.

Wednesday’s win puts the Rainmen a full-game up on the fourth place, Vermont Frost Heaves, 11-7, who have two games left to play.

The Frost Heaves wrap up their regular season with back-to-back home games Thursday and Friday night. Thursday they play the second place Rochester RazorSharks, 14-4, the defending PBL champions. Friday’s match-up is against the sixth place Kebs, 4-15.

If the Frost Heaves win both games, and finished tied with the Rainmen at 13-7, they will bump the Rainmen to fourth place by virtue of their winning two of their three games with Halifax this season.

The Rainmen will open their best-of-three playoff season at home in the Metro Centre next Thursday night starting at 7 p.m. Their opponents will either be the first place Lawton-Fort Sill Calvary, 17-2, or the second place RazorSharks. The Rainmen will then hit the road for the final game or two of their PBL semi-final.

If the Rainmen are to win the PBL championship at home in front of their Halifax fans, they will have to finish third, beat the Cavalry and hope that Vermont beats Rochester. That would give them the final two homes games of the PBL final.
