Overtime continues to be the Halifax Rainmen’s version of March Madness.
The Rainmen dropped their fourth overtime loss of the month and their first loss at home on the season, in over-time, Saturday night at the Metro Centre to the league-leading Lawton-Fort Sill Cavalry, 104-98. It was the first time the hometown crowd watched a Rainmen game in overtime over the past two seasons.
Unfortunately, in spite of a valiant effort, the Halifax Rainmen couldn’t overcome the Cavalry. The Rainmen trailed by various margins throughout the game, including 13-spread when the Cavalry went on a 19-4 tear to start the second quarter, that built up a 40-27 midway through the quarter.
While the Rainmen battled back several times—to even lead in the final quarter—it was the Cavalry who made the final charge storming back in the final two minutes to tie the game at 91-91, sending it to overtime.
Gary Ervin led the Rainmen on the night with 26 points.
The Rainmen, 11-6, continue to hold on to the final playoff birth with three regular season games left to play. They are one game up on the Vermont Frost Heaves, 10-7, who continued to challenge for the fourth and final playoff berth by defeating the Maryland GreenHawks earlier in the day, 133-119.
The Rainmen now hit the road for a Friday night showdown with the Frost Heaves in Vermont before traveling to Buffalo for a game Saturday against the Stampede.
The Rainmen’s next home game is the rescheduled game against the Quebec Kebs, Wednesday, April 7 at 7 p.m. Tickets for the original Quebec game that was scheduled for March 21 will be valid for this game. Fans with questions regarding this game or their tickets can contact the Rainmen office (902) 444-RAIN or Ticket Atlantic at (902) 451-1221.
