GreenHawks fall to Vermont, 125-121

(Rockville, MD)...Marshall Brown scored a season-high 42 points, Jawan Bailey added 20 points and 15 rebounds and the Vermont Frost Heaves beat the Maryland GreenHawks for the second time in as many days, 125-121 on Saturday night.

Vermont built an early 12 point lead with 1:10 remaining in the first quarter, but the GreenHawks finished the period on a 7-0 run to pull within five points.

The GreenHawks continued their momentum into the second quarter as Scooter Sherrill contributed 14 points in a run that put the GreenHawks ahead 61-53 with 2:13 left in the first half.

Vermont however would close out the quarter on a 14-1 run taking a 67-62 lead going into the break.

After Vermont extended their lead to 10 early on in the third quarter, both teams exchanged baskets for the majority of the quarter until the GreenHawks rallied to cut the deficit to 89-86 heading into the final quarter.

Vermont again would start the fourth quarter strong, increasing their lead to 117-106 with 4:40 remaining on a Marshall Brown three.

After Maryland went on a run to cut the lead to 120-115 with 2:17 remaining, Scooter Sherrill connected on two free throws and Byron Mouton hit a shot in the paint to pull the GreenHawks to within 120-119 with 1:18 remaining.

After an exchange of baskets, Vermont’s Ross Demasi (13 points and eight rebounds) hit one-of-two free throws to give Vermont a 123-121 lead with 32 seconds left.

Scooter Sherrill’s three-point attempt which would have given the GreenHawks the lead rattled in and out and Vermont hit two of four free throws to seal the victory.

Scooter Sherrill, one of size GreenHawks players to finish in double-figures, filled up the stat sheet as he scored 32 points to go along with 10 rebounds, seven assists and five steals. Byron Mouton added 24 points and eight rebounds and Terrance Mouton recorded his second straight double-double with 21 points and 11 assists.

The GreenHawks wrap up their third game in consecutive days when they travel to Manchester to play the Millrats Sunday afternoon at 4:05PM.

NOTES: GreenHawks forward Derick Payne did not play due to a sore ankle. He is expected to be in uniform tomorrow in Manchester…It was Maryland GreenHawks mascot, Dunkin’s fifth birthday…there to take part in the festivities were Screech from the Washington Nationals, Keyote from the Frederick Keys and Louie from the Bowie Baysox.
