Cavs Defeat Capitanes To Sold Out Crowd

LAWTON, Okla. – The Lawton-Fort Sill Cavalry conquered the Puerto Rico Capitanes tonight to the largest crowd in franchise history 105-97.


Cavs co-owner Michael Brown said that the Cavs could not be happier with the turnout for this important game.


“We are thrilled to have such a representation from our Puerto Rican community alongside\\our Cavs fans,” Brown said. “We want to encourage all the fans that were here tonight to continue to come to our games and show support for not only our team, but our community as well.”


Tim Ellis started scoring the first points of the game at 11:110 in the first quarter. Brandon Dean was able to make up for last night against the Maryland GreenHawks by tying for total points with Elvin Mims for 8. Dean made 2 of his 3 three point shots.


The Cavs start to lag behind Puerto Rico at 10:04. Dean made a perfect three pointer with 5:16 left in the first to tie the game 10-10. This was the last time Puerto Rico held the lead in the game.\\The quarter ends with a final of 24-17 in favor of the Cavs.


During the second quarter the Cavs were able to maintain their hold on the lead. The Cavs led in assists with 9-1. The Cavs did turnover the ball more than Puerto Rico with 8-3 but the team continued to keep up the energy and ended the first half 50-38.


During the halftime show the Cavs recognized the Chargers who have done so much for the team. Then the Lawton High School Highsteppers strutted their stuff for the sold out crowd. The Cavs Mini Dancers debuted next with a dance accompanied by some of the Cavs dancers.


In the third quarter the Cavs persisted in their campaign to control the game. Mims scored the most points for the Cavs with 9 for the quarter. Both Puerto Rico and the Cavs struggled with fouls but Puerto Rico fouled more than the Cavs with 10-7 which helped the Cavs keep their lead due to the team scoring 75% of their free throws. The quarter ended with the Cavs ahead 77-70.


The Cavs and Puerto Rico kept the energy up through to the fourth quarter. The game continued to stay close. Puerto Rico’s Head Coach David Rosario was ejected from the game with 8:41 left on the clock after officials call a foul by David Cortes. Puerto Rico received two technical fouls which Shaun Fountain shoots, making the first two and missing the second two.


The game stayed close between the two teams but ultimately the Cavs defeated Puerto Rico with a final of 105-97.


Dean scored the most points of the Cavs with 22, had 6 assists and 2 steals in 48 minutes of play. Mims scored 19 points, had 1 assist, 3 blocks and 1 steal in 27 minutes. The Cavs made 55% of their field goals to Puerto Rico’s 40%.\\


The Cavs will travel to Vermont to play the Frost Heaves at 6:05 p.m. CST on Friday in Burlington. The Cavs will host a webcasting party at Laugh Out Loud starting at 5:30 p.m. CST.
